Foreign Qualifications
Types of certificates issued to holders of foreign qualifications


The regulations provide as follows for foreign qualifications:

14 Complete exemption in terms of Advanced Supplementary and Advanced Subsidiary (A/S) subjects
15 Complete exemption in terms of HIGCSE and IGCSE Level subjects
16 Complete exemption in terms of Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) examinations
17 Complete or conditional exemption by virtue of academic qualifications
26 Conditional exemption in terms of Ordinary and Advanced Level subjects
27 Conditional exemption in terms of HIGCSE and IGCSE Level examinations Advanced Supplementary and Advanced Subsidiary (A/S) subjects
28 Conditional exemption as applicable to applicants from foreign countries
30 Conditional exemption in terms of mature age provisions.
   

The regulations control the issue of certificates of exemption to foreign school leavers who want to be admitted to first degree studies at South African public universities. Such candidates must, before they are allowed to register for first degree studies at such universities, be in possession of a valid certificate of complete or conditional exemption.
